Are you an Eco-Friendly Neighbour?
The New Year tends to be the opportunity many of us take to set resolutions and goals for the year ahead. Have you thought about easy sustainable goals to make a positive impact in your neighbourhood and environment?
We can all help as individuals and make a real difference to ensure the world becomes a greener place. The more we talk and support this movement, the easier it is to amplify our impact. We've put a list together of some of the ways we can all become a little more eco-friendly:
Reduce your waste
This is one of the easiest ways to become more sustainable. Recycling is a great first step at being more eco-friendly, but for those who already regularly recycle, why not challenge yourself by looking beyond the kitchen. This could expand to community or shared bin areas!
When possible, pledge to walk instead of driving
Not only will this help reduce air pollution in your local environment, but it saves money and is great for your physical and mental health.
Switch to an Eco-friendly product
The reduction of plastic straws and bags in the last few years has been a great national move. Alongside this, the hospitality industry have been working towards using reusable cutlery for takeaways. However, coffee cups and plastic bottles remain large contenders when it comes to plastic pollution. By swapping out the one use plastics for reusable water bottles and coffee cups, we are helping to tackle the problem.
Join a Community Garden
Joining a local community garden can link you up with other like-minded people and you can plant your own veggies and plants without the travel and containers. We have a great green space down at Hampden Gardens as well as the Bearbrook Orchard. Aylesbury Garden Town offer Community Food Growing projects to support sustainable food production at multiple locations locally. You can sign up on their website to find out about engagement, projects and opportunities.
