Perfecting 'Potting and Planting' at Bearbrook Orchard
We were out in the community on Wednesday afternoon for our ‘potting and planting’ family picnic at the Bearbrook Orchard. The focus of the event was to encourage any eager young children to try planting seeds, including sunflowers, carrots, herbs, and other delightful veggies, for them to take home to nurture and grow inside for the winter. Managing the event was Iva Abbey, Resident Engagement Officer, who was joined by two of our local Neighbourhood Managers to support and answer any queries. Our partner, Dave Furze from Community Grow, also joined us to plant some blubs and connect with local residents. We are looking forward to see these bulbs when they sprout next Spring!
The children were also able to get involved in bark rubbing, ping pong, and table tennis which proved a great success among the families. Caroline Drew, Communities Business Partner added, “This is such a great way to engage with our local community in Prebendal Farm. It allows us to build strong relationships with our residents and provides ways to promote general well-being”.
The orchard tree project is looking wonderful after the variety of fruit trees were planted back in April. This community space was enhanced through our environmental care commitment and transformed to a beautiful space for local residents and students at Bearbrook School.
